Congratulations to Dr. Hassan Foroosh, whose promotion to (full) professor was approved by the provost and will take place officially on August 8, 2015!

Congratulations to Drs. Niels da Vitoria Lobo and Mubarak Shah on receiving $402,880 from the NSF for their REU Site in Computer Vision. The grant is titled: “REU Site: Research Experience for Undergraduates in Computer Vision”. This is the longest-running REU Site in the US, and has been going on for over 25 years.

Congratulations to Mubarak Shah and Hassan Foroosh for each winning a UCF Research Incentive Award (RIA) for the 2014-15 academic year. These awards are in recognition of outstanding research efforts.

Congratulations to Dr. Fernando Gomez, who was recognized at UCF Founder’s Day for his years of service at UCF, upon his retirement.

Congratulations to Dr. Damla Turgut for receiving $10,000.00 from National Science Foundation (NSF) for a project titled “The Ninth ACM International Conference on Underwater Networks & Systems (WUWNet-14) – Student Travel Awards”.

Congratulations to Dr. Sumit Jha and Dr. Narsingh Deo on receiving $2500 from Georgia State University for being an early adopter of the TCPP/CDER Curriculum Initiative supported by NSF.

Congratulations to Dr. Kenneth Stanley on receiving $22,000 in additional funding from SoarTech for a project titled “FOCVS phase 1”.

Dr. Gita Sukthankar’s lab developed the KPark mobile phone app, which now has more than 2,000 users. More information is available at www.kparkapp.com.

During April, Dr. Mubarak Shah’s computer vision research was presented at two leading Brazilian academic / research universities. Presentations were made at the University of Sao Paulo (Universidade de Sao Paulo, USP) and the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (Instituto Tecnologico de Aeronautica, ITA.)

Congratulations also to Dr. Avelino Gonzalez, who has a newly opened exhibit on the Turing Test at the Orlando Science Center. A piece about this aired on September 17 on Channel 35 news.
