COT 5937 Project Status

6/7 Encryption functions & key turned in by each group.
6/14 Ciphertext samples 1, 2 and 3 given to each group.
6/21 Matching plaintext/ciphertext samples 4 and 5 given to each group.
6/21 Each group receives opposing group's code encrypted using my encryption algorithm.
6/21 Blue and Red groups get part 2 of the opposing groups' algorithms.
6/26 Green and Orange groups (who are going against each other) get part 2 of the each others' algorithms.
6/28 Purple and Black groups get part 2 of the opposing groups' algorithms. Each groups' code, encrypted using my cipher is posted on the web site.
7/3 Each team receives ciphertext for chosen plaintext attack. Red team is the first team to break the original Purple team ciphertexts. With the combination of the chosen plaintext attack and deciphering most of the Purple team's code (encrypted using my cipher), they had enough tools to figure out all three samples.
7/5 The Green, Black and Orange teams earned the first part of their opponents algorithms by being the first three teams to correctly answer the Rabin system decryption question.
7/10 The other three teams receive the first part of their opponents algorithms. Both the Green and Purple teams have claimed they are close to breaking the Orange and Red ciphers respectively.
7/11 Green team breaks Orange team's cipher. They do so without breaking my cipher to get access to Orange's code. They are the first team to win in this fashion. The Purple team is extremely close to breaking the Red team's cipher. They will get back to working on it after the homework is turned in. The Black team has broken the Blue team's cipher. Shortly, they will email me the full plaintext of the three ciphertext files.
7/12 Black team breaks the Blue team's cipher, at 1:01pm. Blue team breaks the Black team's cipher at 4:20pm.
7/16 Purple team breaks Red team cipher, as best as possible. Red team's cipher is proven to not be unique. Every other character has two possible decryptions. The red team figured this out and turned in plaintext with the two possible choices for every other character.
