Congratulations to Dr. Mubarak Shah who won the College Excellence in Research Award at the full professor level. His name is being forwarded to the UCF committee for consideration at the university level.

Congratulations to Arup Kumar Ghosh, who received an honorable mention for the 2016-2017 university award for Excellence by a Graduate Teaching Assistant. This award recognizes Arup’s exceptional ability to assist the lead instructor and students in the classroom. Arup has made a significant contribution as a GTA.

Congratulations to Dr. Afshin Dehghan, who won the 2016-17 university award for Outstanding Dissertation in the category Engineering, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences. This award recognizes the quality, content and exceptional contributions to the field of Computer Science. Dr. Dehghan was a student in computer science

Congratulations to Dr. Mubarak Shah, who will receive a 2016 award for Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Doctoral Students in the disciplinary grouping of “Engineering, Physical, Mathematical, and Life Sciences.”

Congratulations to Hack@UCF and advisor Dr. Tom Nedorost for capturing 1st Place in the 15th annual Information Security Talent Search Competition at Rochester Institute of Technology this past weekend. The Information Security Talent Search (ISTS) competition is an annual 3-day cyber attack/defend competition hosted at RIT by SPARSA.

For the 5th consecutive year, UCF’s CCDC team has qualified to compete in the Southeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition Regional. The competition will be held April 5th and 6th at Kennesaw State University near Atlanta, GA. This year, 33 teams entered the SECCDC Qualification event including 7 Florida schools (UCF, UF, UNF, USF, UWF, FSU, Valencia).

Congratulations to Dr. Pamela Wisniewski, who has received some substantial media coverage from National Public Radio and Science Daily among others, for two papers that she published in the 2017 ACM Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW 2017).

Congratulations to Eugene Taranta, Amirreza Samiei, Mehran Maghoumi, Pooya Khaloo, Corey Pittman, and Dr. Joseph LaViola for having their paper, “Jackknife: A Reliable Recognizer with Few Samples and Many Modalities” selected to receive an ACM SIGCHI Best of CHI Honorable Mention Award (top 5% of all submissions to CHI 2017).

Congratulations to Dr. Damla Turgut for winning the University excellence in professional service award, which will be given to her at the UCF Founder’s Day convocation.
