Com S 362 --- Object-Oriented Analysis and Design HOMEWORK 2: TEAM PROJECT INCEPTION PHASE (File $Date: 2002/02/04 18:38:13 $) Due: by Feb. 6, 2002 at 11AM 50 points This homework is the inception phase of your team project. You should make a web site with your artifacts (which are mostly text) for the inception phase. Your task is to: (a) determine the appropriate artifacts for the inception phase of your project, and (b) create those artifacts. Look in the first seven chapters of Larman's book (Applying UML and Patterns, 2nd ed.) for a discussion of what kinds of artifacts to create. However, don't make the mistake of doing too much planning and too much analysis in this phase. We will take points off if you do too much (really), since the whole point of inception is to do just enough to decide whether and how to continue in the elaboration phase. Instead, if you finish early, hand in what you have done that is appropriate, and then if you have more time, start on the elaboration phase. As the purpose of inception is to decide if you want to continue your project, you should try to finish this homework early, so that, if you decide you don't want to continue with your original project, you will have time to find another project, make sure we approve that, and redo the inception phase for it. WHAT TO HAND IN You work will be judged on whether you have chosen an appropriate set of artifacts and an appropriate level of detail for the inception phase, and on the quality of those artifacts. We expect to see some use cases, with a small fraction done in detail, and perhaps a revised vision statement. The appropriateness of your work will be judged on how well you have identified the risks in your project, and your should concentrate your efforts on finding out what the risks are and gathering enough information about them to begin exploring them in more detail in the first elabortation iteration. You may want to say something about the risks in a revised vision statement, if that is appropriate. Also, don't forget to hand in the course's "Certification of Individual Contribution and Understanding Form". You can find this form in 3 formats from the course web pages at the URI: http://www.cs.iastate.edu/~cs362/docs/ or on the department machines in the directory /home/course/cs362/public/docs/ The certification form must be printed and signed, you cannot turn that in by email. For this homework, it's probably best to turn everything in as a printout. However, if you have a web site that has lots of hyperlinks that don't work on paper, point us to where it is instead of giving us a printout.
