The Software Life Cycle Model proposed by Boehm in 1976 provides a practical model of the different stages involved in the development of software, right from its development to its retirement.

As seen from the Life Cycle Model, we can divide the software life cycle
into very distinct steps. It may seem obvious that if we are able to reduce
the cost of any of the steps above mentioned, we may be able to reduce
the cost of the software on a whole.
