Official Course Description
Perceptual,
cognitive, affective, social, organizational, commercial, and cultural
factors. Disciplines, techniques and methodologies. Web, mobiles, and
wearables. Embodied conversational agents. Elderly, disabled and
special needs.
The Approach for this Term
- We
will focus on understanding and applying the concepts of usability and
accessibility in order to organize the various elements of the official
course description.
- We will study the latest thinking from a
number of International Standards groups in order to consider the
latest thinking in these areas.
- We will consider various technologies in terms of how they
might meet user needs rather than as an end in and of themselves.
Objectives
A passing student shall be able:
- To apply the components of the definitions of usability and
accessibility to evaluating and developing interactive systems
- To apply usability methods in evaluating and developing
interactive systems
- To apply principles and other forms of ergonomic and user
interface guidance to evaluating and developing interactive systems
- To identify and analyze the various components of the
overall context of use of an interactive system
- To develop usability and accessibility specifications that
can be used in evaluating and developing interactive systems
- To identify techniques and technologies that can satisfy
usability and accessibility specifications
Prerequisites
COP 3330 and COP 3502C and
a desire to learn.

Students with Disabilities
Students
with disabilities who have special testing needs are required to

Grading
- Assignment 1 – Evaluate an Interface – 20 %
- Assignment 2 – Develop and Perform a Usability Test – 25%
- Assignment 3 – Team Report and Presentation – 10%
- (Team) Term Project – 25%
- Final Exam – 20%
Assignments, projects, and exams will all be assigned percentage marks.
Final
letter grades (including plus and minus) will be assigned based on the
composite of all marks, in accordance with the university's grading
policy.

- Please
make sure to check the class home page regularly (at least once per

- Webcourses@UCF will ONLY be used for accessing class notes and the text and for submitting assignments.

- Electronic Devices:
- Laptops, cell phones, and other mobile computing devices
must be turned off during tests and absolutely no phone calls are
allowed during testing.
- Cell phones must be turned off before coming to class.
- Missed
Lectures: Students are responsible for obtaining information about
assignments and material covered during missed lectures from other
students in the course.
- Makeup Exams: No makeup exams will be given except for
medical reasons with written documentation.
- Makeup Assignments: No makeup assignments will be given.
- Academic
Integrity: Plagiarism and Cheating of any kind on an examination or
assignment will not be tolerated. It may result in an “F’ for that
component of the course (and may, depending on the severity of the
case, lead to an “F” for the entire course) and may be subject to
appropriate referral to the Office of Student Conduct for further
