Research Assistant (PhD student in Spring 2027)
Hi, this is Yihao! I am an incoming Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Central Florida (UCF), advised by Dr. Yu Fu. Before joining UCF, I received my Master's degree in Informatics from Penn State and my B.Eng. in Computer Science and Technology from East China Normal University. I also worked as a Research Assistant at Shanghai AI Laboratory before beginning my graduate studies.
My research interests lie in human-computer interaction (HCI) and technology-mediated relationships. Specifically, I am interested in digital intimacy, human-human parasocial relationships, and human-machine attachment in virtual worlds. Throughout my academic journey, I have been interested in how computing and information technologies shape human emotions and our perceptions of relationships. My interest began with my undergraduate research in cognitive science and virtual reality and later developed throughout my graduate research on game-mediated intimacy.
More broadly, I approach HCI and technology-mediated relationships from a holistic perspective across multiple levels: from micro-level psychological mechanisms, to meso-level interactions on digital platforms, and ultimately to macro-level sociocultural systems.
I do research for fun. If my work brings a smile to you, or if you happen to share similar interests, please feel free to reach out :)
More About Me
I am an avid video game enthusiast! I have been involved in Chinese video game localization since high school. Some of the better-known games I have worked on include Rhythm Doctor and Cultist Simulator (both are fantastic games, and if you have never played them, I highly recommend giving them a try)! During the less harsh years of my life, I also love participating in game jams with friends. Watching everyone's wild imaginations collide, evolve, and eventually take shape as something interactive is always something exciting for me.
