Hi, I'm Yu! I'm an assistant professor in UCF's Department of Computer Science, where I lead the Designing Interactive & Intelligent Data (DiiD) Lab. My work explores how people interact with data and intelligent systems—how we understand information, communicate ideas, create, and make decisions. It spans human-centered computing, visualization, and AI.

I did my Ph.D. in Human-Centered Computing at Georgia Tech with John Stasko. Before that, I worked as a sports journalist and basketball data analyst.

A little more about Yu

I have three cats and watch a lot of basketball, plus a little football and soccer now and then. Back in undergrad in China, I captained my college basketball team, won university league titles and MVPs. Before becoming a researcher, I was an NBA journalist and basketball data analyst at Tencent and Titan Sports. Basketball has been a pretty big part of my life!
